Garrard Co. Child Abuse Prevention Kick Off Event Garrard Co. Child Abuse Prevention Kick Off Event at Lancaster Elementary, featuring the Mayor's Proclamation signing, declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each preschool student in the county will also receive a pinwheel. Pinwheel gardens will be planted at each elementary school, the DCBS office and the county extension office as well. Each garden will feature 86 pinwheels reflecting the number of substantiated referrals to Garrard Co. DCBS in 2009.
Blue ribbons will be provided to elementary school students and police officers for their cars as well. The courthouse will also be decorated with blue ribbons.

Home of the Innocents Clothesline Project HOTI will be putting up their annual "Clothesline Project" in their main building at 1100 East Market St., Louisville. Modeled after the national "Clothesline Project" that was started in MA in the 1990's to address the issue of violence against women, this gives our current child and adolescent residents the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings about their own abuse. HOTI will then hang the shirts on an "indoor clothesline" to be viewed by others as a testimony to the problem of child abuse. Home of the Innocents Pinwheel Gardens HOTI will also be having two "pinwheel gardens" in Louisville. One will be outside of Market Street location at the corner of Baxter Ave. and Market Street. This display will feature two giant 12 ft. pinwheels and a banner suspended between them with the message of preventing Child Abuse and inviting people to take a pinwheel (the pinwheels will be in the ground beneath the banner and the giant pinwheels). We will also have additional "pinwheel gardens" inside our facilities for our staff, residents and guests to take a pinwheel. Knott Co. will kick off the month with a pinwheel display at all of the county schools on April 1st. Letcher Co. Child Abuse Awareness Events Letcher Co. is planning a series of events in recognition of child abuse awareness month, including: Pinwheels will be placed outside the DCBS office as well as the courthouse, blue ribbons (big enough to put on doors) will be sold for $10 and offered to local businesses, schools and community partners and DCBS staff will be speaking at a meeting of the county’s school guidance counselors in order to involve them and the schools in activities. Magoffin Co. Schools Poster Contest
As we speak Magoffin County School system is collaborating with us on a poster contest for grades 2nd – 6th. and Kindergarten and 1st grades will be decorating their school with their own hand made pin wheels and will be completing pin wheel coloring sheet. The Magoffin Co. Senior Citizens have been asked to be the judges for the K1 contest. The poster contest will be judged by area community partners after the school pre-judges the finalist. Prizes are being donated for 1st place (1 bike for winner from 2nd-through 4th grade and 1 bike for 5th- 6th grade. 2nd prize will be (2) $25.00 gift certificates.
Winners of the pinwheel decorating contest will be one classroom which will be awarded a pizza party for their classroom. All this winners will be announced at the event on 04-24-10.

Streets will be blocked off and participants will walk through town, ending in front of the courthouse. There, county/city officials will proclaim it Child Abuse Prevention Month and speak to the crowd. Balloons will be released. Some entertainment is also planned with a class of baton twirlers per forming and possibly some songs being performed. School and church groups are also being asked to participate in the walk. Child Abuse Prevention Month Kick-Off Event (hosted by ECHO-Exploited Children's Help Organization)

Where: Rutherford Elementary Gymnasium

What: Agencies will have individual tables where they will have kid-friendly information and/or games about their programs and services and pinwheels. Ruther ford Elementary students will come into the gym in 5 shifts, 1 shift per every 30 minutes by grade level starting at 11:30 am and lasting until 2:00. At 2:00 a press conference will be held in the gym to mark the official kick-off of Child Abuse Prevention Month in the Louisville metro area. Lt. Tom Dreher from the Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU), Lucy Lee, Director of ECHO, and the principal of Rutherford Elementary will speak to the media about Kentucky’s current situation and issues concerning child abuse. Following the press conference, Rutherford Elementary will provide a spot outside that will be marked for students to place pinwheels. The pinwheels will remain for the month of April.

Blue is the color chosen to represent child abuse prevention and awareness, so churches across the country are being asked to designate a Sunday during the month of April as “Blue Sunday”. Mercer Co. Child Abuse Prevention Month Expo
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month! In an effort to build relations with our community partners and keep the prevention of child abuse in the forefront, the Mercer County DCBS office is sponsoring our
1st Annual Child Abuse Prevention Month Event.
On April 29th from 1:30pm-4:00pm we will be hosting an Open House followed by a balloon release at 4:00pm in honor of those who have been touched by maltreatment.
We would like to invite you to stop by our open house to give everyone the opportunity to meet and learn about our program as well as to give you the opportunity to educate us about your programs, services or visions for the future.
Please feel free to bring information about your program/services so we can provide them to our families.
Refreshments and drinks will be served.

For Kids Sake- Franklin Co. 2010 Candlelight Vigil For Kids Sake- 2010 Candlelight Vigil in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM). April gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of the toll that child abuse and neglect have taken on individual children and our community as a whole. This program will include performances by the Second Street School Children's Choir and a speech by Dwayne Depp, Assistant Director of Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky.
